The Prosperity Project Newsletter Issue 2

We’ve had an exciting few weeks of learning and planning at The Prosperity Project. Our first team strategy session with Executive Director Julie Savard-Shaw gave us tremendous energy for the mission-based work ahead. Community events and learning sessions broadened our communal knowledge and reignited our passion for creating equity for all women. And licking the metaphorical stamp on the envelope for Annual Report Card invitations got us all excited for our next big research report (okay, maybe some of us are data nerds). Take a look at what’s new and stay tuned for much more!

TPP Strategy Sessions

6 team members smiling together at table

How can 48 hours shape an entire year? This June, the TPP team gathered in Toronto for two days of intensive strategy sessions peppered with lots of laughs. We talked about our mission to identify and eliminate barriers to all women’s success. We started planning events that will feature community collaboration and celebrations of milestones. We discussed our personal experiences as women and how those drive our passion for the work we do. In the end, we returned to our desks ready for action and excited about making an impact.

The Invitation’s in the Mail

2024 Annual Report Card on Gender Diversity and Leadership

Email that is. We’ve sent official notices to representatives of Canada’s 500 top companies (by revenue) to participate in the 2024 Annual Report Card (ARC). We know that this year is going to be the biggest yet. How do we know? The ARC is the only survey of its kind to collect gender diversity data from an intersectional lens and include pipeline to leadership data. That’s why we regularly see our ARC data cited when gender diversity is discussed.

We can’t say enough about the importance of measuring the pipeline to leadership. It gives organizations a crystal ball for the future of equity and diversity so that they can take steps to take action. Companies who participate show their commitment to gender equity and diversity. In so doing, they are poised to recruit and retain top talent.

Recent Community Happenings

Hon. Karina GouldBill C-35

Great news for parents and believers in gender equity! The House of Commons unanimously passed Bill C-35 committing the federal government to fund public childcare. It is a moment worthy of celebration and a wonderful first step. TPP will continue to advocate for accessibility and quality of care.

95 Years is too long to wait for gender parity.Global Gender Gap Report

The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap report was released last week. It shows a significant slowing in the movement towards gender parity. At TPP, we will continue to break barriers to women’s success. We don’t like to wait for change. We’d rather make it.

Indigenous People's DayIndigenous People’s Day

On Indigenous People’s Day, we spent an afternoon of learning about the realities that Indigenous women face in Canada. We came away more knowledgeable even more motivated to continue to work for the advancement of all women and find collaborative approaches to partnerships with Indigenous communities.

Happy Pride MonthPride Month

For some organizations, Pride Month starts and ends in June. We are full of pride all year long. And we are working to make sure more self-identifying women from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community move into leadership and the pipeline to leadership in Canada.
